Large fleets face losses daily due to uncontrolled vehicle use:
- drivers inflate mileage or use vehicles for personal purposes;
- drivers violate operating regulations;
- drivers inflate fuel consumption.
Factory monitoring systems installed on modern trucks do not solve the problem: they are expensive and have limited functionality.
Project goal
Develop and implement an alternative monitoring system that:
- reads data directly from the CAN bus of any vehicle;
- integrates with existing monitoring platforms;
- reduces ownership and maintenance costs by half.
Implementation for the client
Fleet: 845 trucks
Objective: Replace expensive factory systems with a single, independent solution.
Implemented:
- Connection to the CAN bus and decoding of required parameters.
- Development and upload of custom firmware for trackers.
- Data transfer to the Wialon monitoring system with real-time visualization.
Controlled parameters (16+)
- Fuel consumption and idling;
- speeding and braking frequency;
- cruise control use;
- average axle load;
- engine speed;
- coasting distance;
- acceleration exceeding limits (accelerometer);
- driving efficiency and style.
An automatic fuel card reconciliation service has also been implemented—the system compares the amount of fuel paid for with the card against the actual fuel consumption as measured by the fuel level sensor.
Results
- The standard monitoring systems have been completely replaced.
- The subscription fee was halved.
- Saving money.
- Flexible parameter settings and the ability to connect additional modules were available.
- Operating costs were reduced by 50%.
The client gained complete control over the fleet, transparent driving style analytics, and a real-time cost reduction tool.
