Tire condition monitoring

Tires are a key factor in fleet efficiency and safety.
Tire maintenance accounts for up to a third of operating costs.
Tires often fail prematurely due to incorrect tire pressure or overheating, which leads to:

  • premature wear;
  • increased fuel consumption;
  • risk of tire failure and accidents;
  • additional repair and replacement costs.

A 20% reduction in tire pressure reduces tire life by almost a third and increases fuel consumption by 3-5%.

Project Goal

To create a tool that will enable real-time monitoring of tire pressure and temperature, prevent critical conditions, and optimize fleet maintenance.

Solution

TAI Capital engineers implemented a remote tire condition monitoring system by integrating data from tire pressure and temperature sensors into the WialonHosting vehicle monitoring platform.

Key features:

  • Online monitoring of tire pressure and temperature for each wheel;
  • Data visualization on a status panel with color indicators (green for normal, yellow for abnormal, red for critical);
  • An analytical module for generating graphs and reports for the fleet;
  • Paired tire condition assessment as a percentage;
  • Sensor health monitoring;
  • A centralized dashboard with summary tire condition indicators for the entire fleet.

The system combines telemetry data into a user-friendly interface with three tabs:
Monitoring — current tire condition online.
Analytics — detailed pressure and temperature parameters.
Dashboard — summary graphs of sensor condition and statistics.

Implementation Results

After 6 months of system operation on quarry equipment, the following were recorded:

  • Increase in tire life by up to 40%.
  • Reduction in fuel consumption by up to 10%.
  • Increased repairability of damaged tires.

Overall tire and maintenance costs were reduced by up to 45%.

Results

TAI Capital’s tire monitoring solution not only monitors the condition of a fleet but also prevents accidents, saves resources, and improves operational safety. The intelligent tire pressure and temperature monitoring system has become part of the clients’ comprehensive telematics infrastructure.
